Day 27 - 10 Ka Dum

I feel very upset and sad to learn about the young teenaged girl Shinjini, who had to be hospitalized under severe depression as a result of the humiliation and harassment caused to her by some uncaring judges in a reality show! What is more shocking is that the so-called judges did not even visit her nor offered any help and assistance. This unfortunate incidence puts the judges in the dock but who would try & punish them? Is such behavior and treatment not a cognizable offence? It ought to be.

It is sad that Judges in such shows are seen to rebuke the less talented contestants… they expect young kids to have great skill and capacity of the maestros. But do they even realize that their attitude, their high-handedness causes such great psychological damage to these kids - who are conscious of the fact that they are being humiliated in front of millions of television viewers. It is a matter of grave public shame. How can they forget their own children & their own fears? It is said that all great artistes keep their childhood alive through all ages of life. This callous disregard of the fragility…the innocence of a child is really shocking.

I am told that the entire behavioral pattern of the judges is well scripted in advance, to create hype and false drama in reality shows for the sake of TRPs. What a shame! Some people go to any lengths to sensationalize their show. How can they forget their own struggle? How can they expect these kids to have the same standards of excellence, which they might have achieved after decades of dedication and practice? Instead of offering love & understanding to the children, they are taking out their stress, their own frustrations on the kids. It’s such a pity. It’s really unbearable.

Salman Bhai, what you wrote today coincides with what I think. But those "judges" forget their own struggles that's why they are so harsh and mean and promote themselves more than they encourage the newcomers. And the people who are really talented are pushed behind. I don't know when people will realize this, but it should happen soon. I know you will never act like that. The care that you have for the common person is apparent in everything you do. That's why people try to destroy your image, but they don't know that this is all in God's hands. You're simply the best! MashAllah. :)

Keep rocking! Bless you!!

What a shame that judges did such cheap thing!!!!!!!!!!

I am very angry.....It should not happened.....

You are very right salman da......all happen to increase the TRP's of the show they preprepared the script....

They should be ashamed of themselves.....

That's what i want to show in my script how important it is to care the children in the adolescence stage when a child is neither a kid nor a mature person...

I feel for them because it's the age(adolescence period) when a child should be treated carefully.... and mature ones shows this type of nature that strongly affects their minds.......

Salman da i want to make something for children so that they make themself strong.....thats what i am working.....

This is not the place to write but salman da i really want my script to be a movie so that teenager can believe themself....

Teenager apane maan se batt kar sake and apane maan ko control kar sake.....

Please da think.....and just mail me and tomarrow i will be infornt of you...

I agree Salman Bhaiya...what Shinjini is experiencing is a physical as well as a mental paralyze. I guess many people must have suffered the mental agony earlier as well. And since the mental pain is not visible and is intangible, they never came to limelight. Shinjini's case is just an example, a reflection of many more people who are humiliated in the hands of so-called judges.

Vibha said...

Isn't there anything we can do? Should we write to the judges to show their support to Shinjini at this point of crisis?

Dear Salman,

Your feelings do you credit. I saw when you were a guest judge on Chota Ustaad how you tried to always protect the young contestants from the harsh remarks of the judges, and stood up for them and encouraged them to try their best. I remember, too, your remarks in your Day 1 blog, about the reasons why you decided in favor of anchoring Dus Ka Dum. Such feelings truly set you apart as a caring, compassionate individual. That's why we enjoy your show so much!

hi, it's a very sad news. i think people should love each other but whenever i see newspaper there are news of murder, blasts and all that, i do not understand that what people get by giving pain to others. somewhere there is religion fight, what is all that. we are making this world a hell. if we love each other and respect the feelings of others and feel their pain this world will surely be a heaven for all of us. may my this dream will come true one day.

100% agreed. I guess, all reality shows are only concern about the publicity and the so called trp's of the show. In Malaysia, the reality show is also like that. Sometime, I wonder... where the manners that all these the so called public figure! They said things that the kids never knew about! What a pathetic. There are a lot different between them and all those contestants which only learn about the show biz in 3-6 month. How can they expect the contestant reach their level. I guess, they should stop the show, if they only concentrating on the trp more than the knowledge they want to share with the contestants....

romibaiduri said...

Agreed 100%. I guess, they only concern about the trp of the shows. In Malaysia, there is no exception. The judges keep giving the pressure to the contestant. They never think of the contestants feeling. How can they(the judges) comparing themselves with these contestant which only have experience in 3-6 month with them??? The are so pathetic. They keep shouting and in the same time, humiliate the contestant. I would say, they should stop all the reality show if they keep doing these... They supposed to guid and teach them... not to burn down the contestant talent and courage. SO SO SO PATHETIC......

Well, regarding the stage shows, I just hate the way they poke the contestants feelings and make them cry . I have also seen in a show where the contestant's mother getting dizzied on the podium when the judges enunciate some harsh remarks on the participant.

I tend to disagree with your view.

Yesterday, I saw that part of episode on news channel where they were showing english translations of comments by the judges. There was nothing objectionable in that. They just spoke about weak performance compared to earlier performances and they were also hurt, in normal language and behavior. Other than that she is a 16 year old and not a child. It can be her parents' mistake as the judges are saying.

You are not advised to comment unless it gets proved. I hope you all see those english translations of the comments given by the judges.

Dear Salman
Agreed. Such shows need to take up the responsibility of clean fun rather than stooping to dirty gimmicks just to rake in TRPs, sponsors, and ultimately more money.
But your show rocks sir! And we viewers having a rocking time at it. My grandma also is very appreciative of your show. There goes another feather in your cap.. the best part of DKD is your natural presentation and the unique gaming strategy. Great job.
Me and my sister have been trying to get in to play the game from day 1. Lets see.
I have a request to make. My younger sister is a huge fan of yours. She was successfully able to meet you in person a couple of years ago to wish u on your birthday with a handmade card we both made. She is my buddie.. bole toh my 'baangdoo'. We share a relation just like the one u and Sanjay Dutt depicted in the movie Chal Mere Bhai. We come back home on time from our jobs to watch your show.I am sure my Mom must have blessed you.My sister, Devangi, turns 28 on 16th July. She wants me to make her another sketch of yours (I have already made 3 for her but this gal wants more). My 2 most favourite actors are Amitji and u. I am not sure if I am making a valid request here, but it will give my sis immense joy if you would wish her for her birthday. It could be on your show if possible or otherwise. I want to give her the best gift ever with your assisstance. Wishing you all the best and God bless.

Best Regards

Heyyyy,
I am so glad that you finally wrote because I was going to complain to you about it...hehehe!
I always love the things you say because they are so true and make sense. I feel sorry for the girl and I'm shocked that something like this is happening to young childern. Such harsh judges should have to pay for all this and as well as the show. I remember one time when you were on the show Choti Ustad and the girl judge said to this one child singer that she didn't sing good, you told the judge to explain to her why she didn't sing good! I am sooo proud of you! Judges are people who teach a child, but instead some judges feel that they are court room judges and have to yell. I think it's unfair to even yell at adult contestants, but with young childern it's even more horrible. These judges feel their soo great, but they forget their own struggles to get where they are. The other day on zee channel they were showing this ad for a singing competiton and the judge stopped a singer from singing half-way all because the singer was singing a song by Atif Aslam. The judge was like ' don't ever sing songs by such terrible singers agian.' I was so shocked. Atif is an awesome singer; and even if the judge dosen't like him why does he have to humilate him infront of millions of viewers? I think the only reason the judge did this was because Atif is from Pakistan and he is soo popular.
Now getting back to the other story; the judges need to apologize and they have no right to yell at someone like that. Those judges need to learn from the show Boogie Woogie; the judges there are so nice and they never yell even if the contestants did bad.
I am proud of you for taking this story in notice. I love you for the person you are. You rock!! And if you want a 14 year old somewhere in your movie Veer, than please e-mail me! By the way I am a girl!
I love you and always will. I can't wait for 10 ka dum and don't ever stop blogging! Take care and all the best!!!

Hello Mr Salman Khan,

I have been reading this blog off and on for some time now.I would like to comment on this latest post.
The condition of the girl Shinjini may or may not be because of the judges comments. It could be because of some pre-existing condition and this should be clarified by the doctors treating her. I think it would be wrong to accuse the judges of causing her condition, especially before all facts are known.
By the way, you do a good job in your show and it is pretty entertaining!

I watch judges interviews they were not having any guilt on their faces and were trying to prove themselves right and shinjini's parents wrong.

And u are right mostly judges used very harsh words sometimes it looks paticipant did a crime. All though all reality shows are called talent haunt but sometimes get a chance to watch it looks alike inspite of encouraging they are just discouraging.

Such type of ppl spreading negative energy which is always harmful. They should be positive and trying to be kind and explain participants every thing kindly.

Like u every good human being will feel sad and be upset on such types of incidents.

If we believe in God then also believe in that his most favourite human act is that we should not hurt each other by any means.

By the way iifa awards were so boring I think reason was ur abscence.

Salman this is something i feel very strongly about. The reality show judges seem to have no remorse or empathy on young participants of these so called "reality" shows. I saw a show on Zee tv called "lil champs" with hosts of Sonu Nigam and Suresh Whadkar (both seem to be extremely knowledgable about music) but lacked the ability to give constructive criticism rather than just plain criticism. I would have to turn the television off whenever I saw them rip into the young children, and make them cry. I know there is immense pressure from the childrens parents to perform well and win, not taking into consideration their mental state and the trauma they will be put through entering a competition of this high competitiveness. I actually would like to commend you on appearing on one of these shows. I believe it was called Voice of India of Star "chote ustaad" or something. In that episode Shreya Ghoshal (heavenly voice) the judge said that she did not like something about the contests singing and left it at that, and then you interrupted and told her to show the young contestant how it is done properly. I thought that was very good of you to remind her that these contestants won't just learn from being criticized in 30s, but need some sort of demonstration or one on one training.

I was hoping that you, in the position you are in within the entertainment industry, could speak out against these shows or even just have a one on one chat with the judges to let them know, that their method of judging puts these contestants under enormous amounts of uneeded stress which can lead to low self esteem and mental issues.

LOL by far the worst judge would have to be himesh

in regards to reality shows, i also believe that judges are harsh in their comments and should know where to draw the line. However, i think its the parents responsibility to keep children away from such participation when the childs nature can be tender.I know everyone has dreams and they should pursue them whole heartedly, but with the exception that if you know you cannot take harsh comments, you shouldn't particpate. Its as easy as that, no need to drag something to a level for media to gain attention. I'm sure there are far more important things in life to worry about than a reality show. In fact the show itself would be getting more publicity, hence why one should sometimes use their brain and not only their heart.instead of trying to be like the west, hold onto your cultural inheritage.Dont try be american or british, be proud of what you are.

I want to see the show of DKD where salman and Aamir doing so much fun and Aamir is commenting that
"Stuperstar ho to salman jaisa apane maan se ata hai apane man se jata hai" " Hum log set pe ate hai mahnat majduri karte hai aur chale jate hai.."

"Magar Salman apane maan ki karta hai"

Yippies...tomorrow is Friday!! Watch out Salman Khan at his candid best with Aamir Khan. The way Salman gives a thanks-giving look to the audience, when Aamir calls him a real superstar, is worth a watch! With his hands half bend, and expressions of a princely king, Salman rules the show! :)

Hi Salman .. Good to read your blog. I was very moved to know this happened. I actually got to know about this recently from your blog cos I live in UK. Then I watched it on YouTube. I'm basically Bengali, and I know the kind of high expectations our parents have from us. Initially my parents really wanted me to do some creative, because they too were very artistic; but if it doesn't come from within me, it ain't gonna happen. They're very proud with whatever success I have accomplished so far, because they know that I enjoy achieving them.

I don't know whether to blame the judges, cos I haven't seen the real thing, but many hearts have been broken in the past because of reality shows. People see ordinary people reach stardome, and think it could happen to them too. Reality shows exploit these great expectations and the media is always there to make things worse. I guess parents today have to stop wanting star-kids in their laps - the entertainment industry is big , but it's not the only one!

Hi Salman,
I have study child care and delopment for 3years and have learned a lot about children self esteem, those people don't realised how a simple comment can destroyed a child life and trust me is it ten time harder to build that poor girl confident again if she ever gets over it.
Why can't everyone be like you Salman.
Love you x

Salaam Salman bhai,

This is Saadia from Pakistan. I have been a faithful fan of yours - through thick and thin - since I first saw 'Maine Pyar Kiya'. Its been awesome witnessing both your screen and off-screen presence. I just wish to commend you on this post of yours. The world today is ruthless. People today, generally, are more keen on laughing at people than laughing with them. The incident of this young contestant is a sad reflection of that. People should learn to empathize and sympathize. Please keep it coming!

And expect to keep hearing from me. :-)

Best,

Saadia

It is really unfortunate that the girl had to go through such trauma. I dont know if you are aware, but there is another horrible show which airs on the channel 'Bindaas'...by the name of Dadagiri. The anchors of that show repeatedly use foul language with the contestents. It is absolutely shocking...you have to see it to believe it. I think that such shows should be banned for good.
Anyway, you have a nice blog and a very popular show. I wish you all the best for all your future endevours Salman.
If you get the time, feel free to visit me at my blog..

Hi... this issue bothers me 2.. No doubt the judges play a crucial role in it.. But at the same time parents r 2b blamed equally. Coz they should b giving their kids; who participate in big shows or rather any competition that we r not always the best and winning or losing is a part of the game; besides that there can b people better than us and yes if some or the other way v haven't performed well it's ok!!! its a part in it.. Majority of the kids in the reality shows aren't afraid of losing but r afraid what would the parents think if they loose..!!! getting me??!!! i have no issues over what u say.. But i think its not juzt one person to be blamed over it!!...Tc bbye

fairytales14 said...

...And yeah i do agree the judges were cruel on their part that they dint even pay a visit 2 c her!! I Hope she gets well soon!!!

All reality shows are only concern about the publicity and the so called TRP of the show.Such shows need to take up the responsibility of clean fun rather than stooping to dirty gimmicks just to rake in TRPs, sponsors, and ultimately more money.

Your opinion with regard to Shinjini Sen case is absolutely true. It's the Parents, relatives and Judges to blamed. As you said the behaviors of these judges are pre-planned to create hype.
